American Patriot City


  On December 4th, 2017, the City of South Tucson was proclaimed American Patriot City.  The proclamation reads as follows:

Whereas, the City of South Tucson, Arizona has been home to many veterans, particularlyof the Vietnam War, due to its proximity to the Southern Arizona VA Health Care Systems, a major medical facility to Veterans across the nation.

Whereas, the Marine Corps League Tucson Detachment 007, has had its headquarters in the City of South Tucson since its inception.

Whereas, the Marine Corps League, in association with the American Patriot Memorial was the spearhead behind the creation of the American Patriot Beacon, established in 2016 in the CIty of South Tucson for families of veterans as a memorial that flies the actual burial flag of fallen Tucson Veterans along with their Presidential proclamation and personal biography to be displayed for thirty days and then returned to each family with full honors.

Whereas, the City of South Tucson recently proclaimed the establishment of the American Patriot Memorial, a nonprofit that works toward the improvement of the quality of life for veterans in Southern Arizona and beyond.

Whereas, in strategic partnership with the Memorial, the government of the City of South Tucson has embarked on a project for the betterment of the families, businesses and community of South Tucson through the economic development of the entire region.

Whereas, believing that our veterans are undergird by the strength and resolve of its patriot citizens, the City of South Tucson wishes to be an example of patriotism throughout the country.

Now, Therefore, I Ildefonso A. Green, Mayor of the City of South Tucson Arizona, with support from the City Council, and in recognition of the history do hereby proclaim the City of South Tucson
